We’ve been back in Galesville, MD, for a little more than four weeks but have had a difficult time completing our blog. Amy flew to Chicago for a family gathering and I dove in to boat-related projects. Then there was the big premiere of Amy’s film, “Red Dot on the Ocean,” in New York City. Not only was it was a big success, but we had a blast hanging out in Greenwich Village.
But to recap the last days of our northern voyage–City Island reminds us of the Eastport neighborhood in Annapolis, but with a distinct Bronx attitude. We spent extra time there on this trip as we had to wait out bad weather as well as the closing of the East River due to the UN General Assembly meeting. The Coast Guard restricts all access to the East River whenever the UN has a gathering of heads of state. If a sailor anticipating a trip down the East River is unaware, they are in for a big surprise. We thoroughly enjoyed our forays into town, especially our dinner at “Artie’s Steak & Seafood.”
We left on Friday, September 26, after the weather cleared and headed south. The forecast was for 10-15 knots of wind from the north but it didn’t materialize until around 4 AM Saturday morning. It conveniently quit as we rounded Cape May so we could motor up the Delaware Bay with the current. We stopped for the night at Reedy Island in the shadow of the scenic Salem, NJ, nuclear power plant.
From Reedy Island, we motored to Deep Creek on the Magothy River where we took advantage of the free dock ‘n’ dine slip at the Deep Creek Restaurant. The next morning we called Fred at Galesville Harbor Yacht Yard asking if he had any open slips for a short term rental. He did and so, here we are.
